ILP arranges for volunteers to have several holidays when they can travel. ILP volunteers experience a foreign culture by contributing to it rather than by observing and touring. Longer excursions can be arranged during time off each weekend and vacations on local holidays. Once you arrive, Head Teachers and Native Coordinators will help your team with travel arrangements such as how to buy tickets, where to stay, places to see, etc. There are also several great travel guides available. Costs for travel during vacations are paid for by the volunteer. (More details in Program Costs). ILP safety guidelines must be followed during travel.
A popular source of travel information is the Lonely Planet Guidebook series. We offer guidebooks for Russia and China at a discount for our volunteers. Get 15% off ($25.00 instead of the retail price of $30.00).
Approved Vacation Destinations:
Russia Volunteers - Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Sweden.
Ukraine Volunteers - Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Romania.
China Volunteers - No travel outside of mainland China or to Special Administrative Regions (SARs) is permitted. (Except as noted below.)
Upon completion of the program the volunteer may plan travel beyond the list of approved destinations with approval from the ILP office.
