Program Costs

chinese girls pic:

The program fee is US$2,320*. Being an ILP volunteer is less expensive than going to school for a semester!

Think about it-- if you stay in school, you pay for tuition ($1,640), Housing and Food ($2,785), and books and supplies ($620). It costs you more than twice as much (US$5,045) to not be an ILP volunteer.

The ILP program fee includes:

  • A great education
  • Meaningful service for children
  • Incredibly cute kids
  • Airfare to China or Russia
  • Housing and Meals for the entire semester
  • Language Classes
  • Cultural Experiences

*The program fee is only $2,220 if you pay in full within 3 weeks of your acceptance into the program.

"6 months in China was worth a year and a half in school for my daughter's education. Her experience was similar to that of a mission."

David Dewey
Parent of 2 past ILP volunteers

You can participate in University Credit and Internships while you are away, so you don't need to get behind in school to be an ILP volunteer, either. Most universities encourage a semester taking classes off-campus and often, arranging credit with your university is simple.

You can have the best of both worlds, and chances are, your experience serving abroad will enhance your educational experience like nothing else could!

Personal Spending

Volunteers typically spend from US$700-US$1,000 on personal items such as souvenirs and travel during vacation periods. You can get by on less, but you may miss some unique opportunities to travel and see Russia or China. Naturally personal expenses vary depending on your own spending habits and location, and they can change without notice due to political and/or economic conditions in the country.

Fundraising and Finding Sponsors

Since ILP is an IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) organization, the program fee and other contributions are tax-deductible. More than half of all program fees are paid by someone other than the volunteer. Parents, relatives, and friends may participate in the volunteer effort for children by sponsoring an ILP volunteer for a portion or all of the program fee. Contributions which exceed a US$2,320 maximum for any volunteer will be used to help other volunteers or children in the program who are in financial need.  Click here to download the Fundraising Packet

Funding

ILP is funded by the volunteers and their sponsors in the U.S., and is subsidized in part by the hosting schools. This arrangement keeps costs to a minimum for both volunteers and the students. Students in ILP host schools come from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds. What they share in common is a culture in which speaking English opens doors to education, employment, and cultural opportunities.
