Qualifications

• A desire to work with children. The children you teach will learn to speak because they want to communicate with you. Teaching and preparation is your first priority. Teachers must put their teaching responsibilities first, and then doors are opened in other areas such as travel, cultural experiences, friendships, language learning, etc.
  
• A strong work ethic. Teaching, although extremely rewarding, can often be challenging. It’s important that teachers devote the appropriate amount of time to lesson planning, training workshops, and other preparation in order to provide your students with the most effective classroom experience possible. Applicants also need to demonstrate that they can stick to a project or cause over a period of time through obstacles, personal sacrifice, and unexpected circumstances.
  
• Maturity. Working in a professional environment demands a certain level of maturity. Teachers should demonstrate the ability to handle problems well, contribute to conflict resolution, accept cultural differences, respond to constructive criticism, and implement feedback. These qualities, as well as a positive attitude, will ensure your success in teaching and maintaining good relations with your school, your fellow teachers, and the Taiwanese people you come in contact with.
  
• High moral integrity. The best teachers are the best people, regardless of what they are teaching. With that in mind, it’s important to us that applicants demonstrate strong character and high moral integrity. Parents and schools entrust you with their children’s education and we want to exceed their expectations.
  
• Good social skills. Often, the friendships you develop with other ILP teachers are the best part of the experience. You will be living, teaching and playing with other American teachers, and it’s important that everyone works well with others, in and out of the classroom. Your team is an important part of the support network while you are in a foreign country.
• Age. Applicants must be at least 20 years old at the time of departure. The Taiwanese government will not grant a work permit to anyone under 20.
• Language/Residence. Teachers must be native English speakers. The schools we work with also prefer that teachers be residents of North America, though every application is considered on a case-by-case basis.
