Housing
Teachers live with host families near the school or in dormitory apartments. The host family and the school staff are an important part of a “support network” that help make your experience safe and enjoyable. Host families are selected by the host schools following a criteria given by ILP. Housing assignments are finalized upon your arrival in the country. Typically, at least 2 teachers live in each dormitory apartment, and 1 teacher per host family. Married couples are usually assigned to cities where volunteers live in dormitory apartments.
“My very best souvenir will be the key to my [host] family’s apartment where they say I will always find a bed, food, and love.”
Cecily Huefner Past ILP volunteer
Meals
Meals are arranged by ILP and prepared by host families or cooking staff at the schools. Meals are generally authentic local cuisine. You will eat what the natives of that country eat. Generally, adjustments can be made to accomodate many special dietary needs. The application provides a place to describe any special dietary needs you may have.
